Reflecting on My First Professional Career: Unwrapping the Gift of a Foundational Decade

As the holiday season begins to sparkle, bringing with it a spirit of warmth and reflection, I find myself looking back on the foundational chapter of my professional life: an incredible 10+ years at First Guarantee Life Assurance Co., Inc now First Life Financial Co., Inc. This was the very first company I joined straight out of college, and it truly shaped the trajectory of my career.

My tenure as a Sales Promotion Officer—which concluded when I moved on from the life insurance industry in 2008—was instrumental in shaping my understanding of business, motivation, and leadership.

My Contribution: Delivering the Gift of Momentum
If the sales team were the festive lights illuminating our growth, I was proud to be the one designing the systems that kept the power running. My role involved designing the incentive structures, developing recognition programs, and coordinating those memorable annual incentive trips, essentially wrapping up the company’s goals in motivational packages.

Sustaining Momentum: I helped create systems that kept the motivational "lights" on all year round, resulting in consistently rising sales throughout my decade-long tenure.

Foundational Guidance: I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the mentors who guided my early steps, teaching a fresh college graduate the true meaning of impact. Their wisdom was the greatest gift I received.

The Result: To see the company consistently increase its sales year after year across my entire tenure remains one of my proudest professional achievements.
